In Ontario, Designated Substances are governed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and specific regulations are made under the Act for each substance.

 

The current list of Designated Substances includes:

 

  • Asbestos
  • Lead
  • Silica
  • Mercury
  • Arsenic
  • Benzene
  • Isocyanates
  • Vinyl chloride monomer
  • Ethylene oxide
  • Acrylonitrile
  • Coke oven emissions

 

 

The services offered by Maple Environmental address the needs and regulatory requirements of our clients from both a construction and a manufacturing perspective.  Services offered in this area include:

  • Abatement design, inspection and air monitoring

  • Control programs
  • Respirator protection programs

Under the Act, a Designated Substance survey of building materials must be performed prior to renovation or demolition.  Further, where any of the Designated Substances are used in a manufacturing process, a control program must be instituted.
